At the center of local media, our business is rapidly expanding, and we are looking for an SVP of Forecasting to join our team. The focus of this role will be to build local media advertising forecasts models that accurately reflect the ad spending environment for leading media channels (i.e., television, digital, radio, direct mail, out-of-home and others), as well as by business vertical. The candidate must be able to use economic skills to make key assessments, along with quantitative skills to develop, process large data sets that reflect the underlying trends and business drivers that affect the forecast output.
The forecasting role is dynamic. The business challenges within the media environment are constant, and the migration to digital media solutions is going faster than ever before. Our role at BIA is to help our clients find and secure ad revenue. Our ideal candidate will be ready and capable to continually refine BIA’s forecasting processes by continuously assessing the economic situation and its impact on local advertising trends and spend across major business categories. Additionally, the candidate will be able to manage multiple inputs to the forecast both from publicly available information and from partners and use the input to shape the forecast and expand its scope and depth, as well as ensure it best reflects the local advertising market.
This will be a fast-paced role with ample opportunity to interact with many functions of the company, as well as clients, partners, and the press. In time, the role will require management of the company’s data forecasting team.
What You’ll Do
- Perform quarterly forecasting across media channels (i.e., TV, Radio, PC/Laptop, Direct Mail, Mobile and more) and business verticals (i.e., auto, retail, health, and more) to track ad spend both on a nationwide and local television and local radio market levels
- Assess the economic situation in the U.S. and apply to the local advertising market to track revenue trends
- Build short and long-term forecasting models to predict and explain media advertising performance
- Provide forecasting leadership by securing and managing partnerships that are key to BIA forecasting
- Set forecasting schedules for the team to follow
- Develop quality assurance checks to manage the accuracy of the forecast
- Communicate details and findings from the forecast both internally and externally
- Keep data team on schedule for regular forecast updates to BIA’s products and publications that are all updated quarterly
- Manage BIA’s key government projects as they relate to our forecast data and other industry databases
- Work on strategic consulting assignments that will utilize your industry knowledge and experience
- Write reports that discuss trends in broadcasting and related industries
- Speak with press on behalf of BIA when there are inquiries about our research or other industry developments
- Participate in live client briefings, public webinars, and company podcasts. Travel and speaking engagements may also be part of the role in the future.
Skill Requirements
- Economic forecasting (3-5 years or more experience)
- Business Analysis (5 years of experience is required)
- Data Analysis and modeling (5 years of experience is required)
- Excel and Access (2 years of experience is required)
- SQL, Microsoft Power BI
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manipulate large, complex data sets
- Prepare understandable reports and data sets for clients

Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as finance, economics, statistics, math, or related fields

Position Description
As Senior Media Industry Analyst, your major responsibility areas include serving as a member of the BIA local ad forecasting team to assist in analyzing how industry economics, technology trends, consumer trends and competitive strategies will impact our forecasting process. You will also join internal cross-functional teams for client-specific strategy and financial consulting projects.
Our research group publishes data in book form and online, providing insights into what is happening in local media in the U.S. We estimate and forecast local advertising for every market in the nation, consisting of analysis for 16 different media for 95 different business categories. This involves analyzing data from publicly-traded companies and other sources, examining prior projections and making grounded projections.
Our strategic consulting involves a variety of different types of analyses typically centered around media businesses and technology. Our valuation team conducts hundreds of valuations each year of radio, television and other media and telecom properties. This involves preparing spreadsheets of financial performance, financial projections and comparable sales analyses.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 5 years’ relevant work experience, preferably in media and/or digital marketing. Direct knowledge of radio and television operations as well as Search, Social, and other digital media is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze raw data, draw conclusions and make recommendations based on forecasted outcomes
- Coursework in statistics and experience with economics and/or financial data
- Expertise in Microsoft Excel and some knowledge of PowerPoint
- Time management and collaborative team skills
- Some knowledge of statistics software, R and/or SAS, and/or database management skillset such as SQL
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to convey technical findings in layman’s terms

Responsibilities
- Conduct research on a variety of economic, consumer and industry factors driving local advertising
- Track and create databases of those factors affecting the media industry and advertising
- Develop financial models to project the impact of these factors on local advertising

Requirements
